Telemedicine

Can anyone tell me if any carriers are currently reimbursing for Telemedicine codes? If so, can you please give me some names of the carriers? Thanks

  • Hi Deon,

There are a lot of variables such as who are you billing, what services are you rendering, where is the patient located etc.
I would recommend that you first become familiar with your state legislation. Does Alabama have parity legislation? If it does, is it parity of coverage, parity of pay or both? How is telehealth/telemedicine defined? Covered originating sites? Also, check your state Medicaid guidelines. Do the state Medicaid guidelines dictate how the Medicaid managed plans have to cover telehealth?
Here is a link to a great website for legislative info specific to telehealth: http://cchpca.org/jurisdiction/alabama

For your commercial plans, once you know the state legislation, I recommend you determine your top payers and contact them directly. Knowing what/if they are required to cover is key to having those conversations.

You can also check the website for the American Telemedicine Association.

    Lisa
