Looking for my ED specialist

Good afternoon-

I know that we have some robust Emergency knowledge on the list, and I am hoping that I can get some feedback/guidance. There is an ongoing conversation regarding MDM. Patient presents to ED with new problem, and the provider orders labs/x-rays/EKG, reviews the EKG tracing, and send the patient home with a prescription. There is concern that by crediting (4) points (per Marshfield) for new problem with further work-up, that there is "double-dipping" if they count (1) point for ordering/reviewing labs, (1) point for ordering/reviewing x-rays, (1) point for ordering the EKG. The debate is whether the (1) point in DMO (new problem w/work up) encompasses the middle box where points are given for ordering and/or reviewing. Any takers? Please?

Thanks in advance,

Donna
