Physicians Treating Family Members

edited April 2019 in General

Hello, All! In the General Exclusions section of the Medicare Manual, it states a physician cannot bill Medicare for treating an immediate family member and it seems pretty straightforward. However, this sentence is a little unclear to me- "This exclusion applies to items and services rendered by providers to immediate relatives of the owner(s) of the provider." We are a large physician-owned primary care group of 130 providers. Does this mean that no one in our organization can see and bill for a family member of any other provider in the organization regardless of clinic site? Do any of you have a process or policy for this? Thanks so much! Vicki Moody,
